Her mother is of Danish, Welsh, German, English and French ancestry and her paternal grandparents who were born in California, were both the children of Mexican immigrants. Joshua is her younger brother. Gustavo Arellano is her third cousin. Her father's Air Force career took them to Biloxi, Mississippi and Del Rio, Texas before they returned to Claremont (California) when Alba was nine years old. Alba spoke of her family's conservative character as being a traditional Catholic and Latin American family. However Alba reveals her liberal views since she's identified herself as a feminist from when she was five years old.
