Susan Sarandon Bio

It was the 1968 Democratic Convention and there was a casting request for a movie with many parts for young people who interrupted it. Joe (1970) was auditioned in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon was not selected even though he prior studies in acting. His wife Susan had a prominent role. That role was as Susan Compton who is the daughter of ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Then, Joe (Peter Boyle), a bigot who works on an assembly line and collects guns, is a friend to Susan. Five years later, Sarandon plays the role in the film. Janet is a transvestite who becomes entangled with the mysterious Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). After more than fifteen years, Sarandon was finally able to actively advocate for Annie in Bull Durham (1988), flying herself from Rome to Los Angeles at her expense. "It was such an amazing script... It was able to do rid of a lot of myths, and challenged the American notions of what success is," she said. "When I arrived in the city, I spent some time with Kevin Costner, kissed some ladies at the studio, then went back to my plane". Tim Robbins (1988), her Bull Durham supporting actor, had already had two sons before 1992 that made Sarandon in a position that she could leave home and pursue challenging roles. There were four Academy Award nominations were received in the 1990s. The award for the best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995) was also awarded. Her first Academy Award nomination was for Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980).
