Ronny Chieng
Ronny Chieng,
born on 21 November, 1985 in Malaysia, is an actor and comedian. Chieng is
currently a senior correspondent for The Daily Show on Comedy Central and
creator and star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student which debuted
on ABC (Australia) and Comedy Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was the son of a
Malaysian Chinese family. He was born in Johor Bahru. From 1989 to 1994, he was
living in Manchester in New Hampshire. Chieng was a performer with Trevor Noah
in 2013 at the comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia. Chieng was offered the
Daily Show's correspondent job two years after. In July 2016, he was named one
of 10 Comics to be watching by Variety In October of that year, Chieng appeared
on The Daily Show to give his take on Jesse Watters Fox News segment that was
criticized by some as being racist. Chieng broadcast an expletive-laden
critique of the segment on Fox News that was deemed conservative by many. He
also visited New York City's Chinatown. Watters had mocked the Chinese
residents and gave respectful interviews in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. The
viral video garnered attention in Slate and the Washington Post. In his young
years, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout. Even though he's lived in Australia for
more than a decade he does not have citizenship or permanent residency status
in Australia. Chieng laughed in 2018 when he said the cynophobe was his name,
but later claimed that he was 100 % unafraid of dogs.
